Huge congrats to Travis Hockemeyer last night for annihilating the field and staying perfect with a 10-0 record on his way to victory at Wizard’s World first IFPA Tournament! Travis bulldozed over everyone leaving Greg Fetting in 2nd, Dan St. John in 3rd, and Mike Burgess, Tim Hovey, and Aaron Miller in a tie for 4th. FULL RESULTS
A big thank you to Mike Burgess for opening the arcade and helping to bring more competitive pinball to Indiana. Larry Schmitt did an amazing job as tournament director running his first tournament. Also can’t leave out Matt Ogden for making sure the games were all fine-tuned and ready for tournament players. The tournament, I believe, will be the 3rd largest in Indiana for 2017 as 36 players showed up to compete at Wizard’s World inaugural event. They will continue to host monthly tournaments on the third Monday of every month as we head into 2018 and I strongly encourage anyone who can make it there to do so. Check out their awesome lineup of machines and have an amazing time.
It was really great to see another arcade in Indiana that offers an experience close to what we are so fortunate to have in Lafayette with Main Street Amusements. It was also great to see some of the players who have been traveling with Mike to Lafayette over the past year to play in our leagues and tournaments now have a place to call their own. Travis played amazingly all night, and I also got to chat with Moses who has come to Lafayette on several occasions. The coolest thing to me was how much pride they both had in helping get Wizard’s World ready for this over the last several months. Everyone involved was asking what people thought, how the games were playing, did they need anything. It is clear that Mike has surrounded himself with a great group of people who share his passion for pinball and have made another great location in Indiana. Thank you to everyone who worked to get Wizard’s World ready for last night, for all the hospitality, and for spreading pinball to more people. I’m sure myself, and many other of the Lafayette crew will be back over the months to come.
Check out Wizard’s World on Facebook to stay up to date on their information, hours, and events!
