Week 4 Results, Next Week Monthly Tournament, & Week 5 Games Announced

We had another strong turnout last night with 13 players reporting to league. 17 points were awarded to the winners of groups 1, 2, & 3 last night Tommy, Matt, and Terry respectively, and Ron came away with the win in group 4 with 14 points. Also as reminder starting with the completion of week 4 the standings automatically begin to drop your two lowest scoring weeks, as a result there is currently a three way tie for 1st place between Keith, Tom, and Dan St. John. Group pairings are still done based on your weekly average points.

April Super-Selfie League Results!

FullSizeRender

Thank you to everyone who participated in the April Super-Selfie League! We were up to 15 competitors this month over the nine we had the first month which was nice to see. Last night the finals took place with eight participants.

Matt, Tommy, Keith, and Tom in “A” Division battled it out for some tokens! Craig, Dan I., Dan S., and Chris in “B” division fighting for pride and reputation. Matt and Craig would be driving the bus for their respective groups on the night. Before the finals began we agreed to a slight point change from PAPA scoring 4,2,1,0 to Pinburgh scoring 3,2,1,0 so to insure that all three games on the night would carry weight. In the end the decision paid off and led to multiple tie-breaker games being played demonstrating the equal skill level of all the players involved.

In “A” group Matt would pick Game of Thrones, Metallica, and Harlem Globetrotters but only coming away with victory on GoT. Tommy would come up with the wins on Metallica and HG, while Keith and Matt traded out 2nd and 3rd place on those two, Tom had a rare “off” night for him and brought up the rear of the group. After the third game Tommy and Matt were dead even in points leading to a mandatory tie-breaker. Matt threw a curve and elected to be second player forcing Tommy to choose between Demolition Man and Captain Fantastic; he chose Demolition Man. Heading into ball three they were seperated by under a 100 million points. Tommy was able to start a multiball and capitalize on a few jackpots while Matt’s ball three took and unfortunate bounce while targeting the multiball start shot and headed down the drain. Final results for “A” Tommy 1st, Matt 2nd, Keith 3rd, and Tom 4th.

In “B” group Craig chose Harlem Globetrotters, Metallica, and Captain Fantastic. Dan I. came away with a clean victory on Harlem only take a quick  fall into last place on the next two games. This allowed Chris and Craig to battle into a tie for 1st place, while Dan I. and Dan S. slid into a tie for 3rd. Both groups elected to play their tie-breaker on Game of Thrones. In the end Craig was able to edge out Chris in their tie-breaker, and Dan I. finally stopped his 2 game skid while clinching 3rd place from Dan S. Final restults for “B” Craig 1st, Chris 2nd, Dan I 3rd, Dan S. 4th.

Results have been submitted and approved by the IFPA, I may have made a mistake in submitting the value of the tournament but won’t be able to tell until they have posted the points, if I did I will get that corrected.

Week 3 Results, and Reminder Super-Selfie League Finals Tonight!

Hey guys, great turnout last night and some really competitive games! Dan St. John came away with the most points on the night at 17 leading the way in group 2. Tommy Skinner eked out the lead in group 1  where every player was separated by just one point putting up 14 points on the night. Terry Vandervate led the way in group 3 with 15 points and clean victories on Funhouse, Monopoly, and Power Play. Keith Alyea claimed victory in group 4 with 15 points as well just missing out on a grand champion score on Medieval Madness and almost breaking a million on Eight Ball Deluxe! Games for week 4 are Family Guy, Revenge from Mars, South Park, Spanish Eyes, and Strikes and Spares!

Reminder that tonight is the Super-Selfie League Finals at 7:30. You will play in groups of 4, and 3 games will be played so it should take roughly an hour. Top seed in each group gets to have choice of either game or position all night. Scoring is 4/2/1/0 for each  game in order of finish. Last month this was worth more points than our typical monthly tournament due to the format of the tournament so anyone interested in making the state finals at the end of the year is strongly encouraged to attend the finals for Super-Selfie League. Hope to see all of you there!  Approximate matchups below if everyone attends.

Wizard Mode Documentary Available NOW!!!

Hey guys if you enjoy pinball, or have any interest in people who are on the Autism Spectrum, this new documentary called Wizard Mode just became available yesterday. I watched it late last night and really enjoyed it. It tells the story of current PAPA World Champion Robert Gagno and his struggles with Autism. It does a really great job of balancing Robert’s life in and out of pinball in the film. Anyway I think many of you may enjoy it. It’s available for a digital rental or purchase at Vimeo.

Main Street Mayhem!

If you hadn’t already noticed there was a new page added to our blog last week for Main Street Mayhem! This will be a two day tournament taking place on September 17th & 18th at Main Street Amusements. The tournament has been designed for big money payouts to top finishers, large WPPR points, and most importantly lots of fun. Over the two days you will be guaranteed 10 rounds of pinball playing 3 different games each round, that’s 30 competitive pinball games in two days! Custom trophies will be awarded to the top 2 finishers in each division, and cash payouts for the top 4 finishers in each division. I have created a public Facebook event for the tournament as well as this website. Tickets/Registration for the tournament will be done online and I will give plenty of notice before that service goes live. Right now I am targeting about 1 month away from opening the registration. My goal is for this to be a competitive tournament, but mostly lots of fun. I hope many of you will participate!

Congrats to Tom Vandenberg April Monthly Tournament Champion

Congrats to Tom on a great showing last night in winning the April Monthly Tournament. He defeated Dan Isaacson in the finals. Dan made it to the finals with two strikes while Tom had only one. Dan was able to win the first game on Eight Ball Deluxe as Tom fell victim to the dreaded EBD House Ball bringing both competitors even with two strikes apiece. The deciding game ended up being the newest one to the floor at Main Street Amusements in Space Shuttle! Tom was able to fly further into space than Dan and secure the victory. Craig was able to make and epic ball 3 comeback on Family Guy over Matt to put them at 3rd and 4th place finishes respectively, albeit not without a bit of controversy as a late game change was made off of Game of Thrones due to a public customer playing on that machine. We were also greeted with our first international participant in Torsten Eid who joined us all the way from Germany! This was Torsten’s first tournament and it was wonderful to get to meet him while he was in town on business. We hope he will make it back in the near future. Full results below.

Super-Selfie League Reminder

Just a reminder to everyone you can play in the Super-Selfie League at anytime down at Main Street Amusements. What’s that? You don’t feel comfortable taking a selfie. Oh no big deal, you don’t have to! It’s just a name for the tournament, if you don’t want to take a selfie you can simply include a thumbs up or thumbs down with you picture. What’s that? You have oddly shaped thumps and that makes you uncomfortable too. Oh no big deal, just include a timestamp on your photo, you know like photos used to have anyway. Here are a few apps that can let you do that all for free! Remember scores can be submitted on your own to Match Play, emailed to lafayettepinballleague@gmail.com, or texted to Tommy 574-596-2668. Lets see some scores this weekend!
