IFPA SCS & Selfie League Update!

Reminder that Lafayette Pinball League is on a break until March 7th, but that doesn’t mean you can go down and participate in selfie league this month! The games are Game of Thrones, Funhouse, Batman ’66, Captain Fantastic, and Metallica. There have been some awesome scores posted already but get down to MSA and make them better! Also reminder that next Tuesday, February 21st we have our regular monthly three strikes tournament with $5 entry fee!

Also this past weekend Main Street Amusements hosted the IFPA Indiana Pinball State Championships and the local boys did good with Tommy and Tom taking 1st & 2nd respectively, Chuck Jackson from Chicago coming in 3rd, and Bob Skinner coming in 4th.. It is the first time the State Championship has returned to Lafayette since Phil Grimaldi moved away, and we hope to keep it here again next year. Also remember all of our IFPA events (league finals, monthly 3 strikes, and selfie league) all build up points for your state ranking which gets you invited to next year’s state championships so show up to everything that you can!

Sun King Brewing Company.png

Recently I reached out to several brewing companies across the state of Indiana in an effort to gain sponsorships for our monthly pinball tournaments at MSA. As many of you know nothing goes together quite like pinball and beer.  Sun King Brewery is the first to reply that they will support us in a partnered effort to grow competitive pinball in Indiana! They have agreed to donate a prize package for the March tournament that includes, 4 pint glass, a $15 gift card, and a Sun King sticker! Be sure to come to Main Street Amusements and enter the tournament on March 21st, at 8:00 PM, for your chance to win one of these great prizes.

Sun King Brewing Company is an Indianapolis-based craft brewery with a focus on continually creating traditional seasonal and unique specialty beer. Sun King rolled their first keg of beer out of the door in July 2009 and since that time has grown into one of Indiana’s largest and most award-winning breweries, with multiple medals at the Great American Beer Festival® and the World Beer Cup®.

Sun King Brewing Company is located at 135 N. College Ave. Indianapolis, IN 46202. There full beer list is available on their site. We are one of many different organizations that Sun King works with across the state, a full list of their partners is also available on their site! The next time you are at a bar or restaurant be sure to see if they have any Sun King available!

Again a huge thank you to Sun King Brewing Company! We look forward to a continued partnership in the future.

Another Season in the Books!

Last night we finished up the Lafayette Pinball League Winter 2017 season! This marks the 6th consecutive season we have played and scored using PinPortal, and probably the first time we have ever wrapped up a finals tournament before closing time at MSA. Entering the tournament it was really anyone’s to win as over the years our league has become very balanced across the board with our skill levels. Keith was entering at the #1 seed attempting to reclaim the title that he had won during the 2016 Winter Season. Matt was entering as the #2 seed looking to go back to back by following up his Fall season championship. Tom entered at the #3 seed looking to make the leap from a couple of runner-up finishes in recent season back to his previous championship form. Tommy entered at #4 looking to claim a second championship having previously won the Spring 2016 season. Rounding out the bracket we had Ron, Terry, and Dan St. John all looking to improve on recent top 4 finishes in previous season to lay claim to victory, while Craig, Dan Isaacson, Joe, and Chris all looked to shock some people and lay waste to their competition.

In round one Craig, Joe, and Chris were all able to advance over their respective opponents. In round two we saw a series of incredibly close games as all matches were decided 2-1, with the higher seeds claiming victory in each battle likely due to having the advantage of game choice. Keith over Craig, Tommy over Dan, Matt over Joe, and Tom over Chris.

Heading down to the consolation bracket Chris knocked out Ron 2-0, in the battle of the Dans, Isaacson claimed victory over St. John 2-0, and Terry took out the Craig 2-0. Following those victories Chris would face Joe and in the end defeat him 2-0, and Terry would again advance over Dan I. in a nail biter 2-1. At this point they would both be awaiting the semi-final losers from the top half of the bracket.

Tommy took down Keith 2-1, losing on Big Indian, but then claiming victory on Ghostbusters and Star Trek. Matt edged Tom on two consecutive games advancing to the finals for a faceoff with Tommy.

In consolation semi-finals Keith had another full match squeaking by Chris 2-1, while Terry continued his hot streak beating Tom 2-1. Terry had at this point made it from the lowest seed in the tournament down to the final 4. In the end though his run would come to a halt as Keith would advance past him with another 2-1 victory and then await the loser from the Matt & Tommy finals match.

In game one of the finals Matt chose Game of Thrones and headed into ball three with a commanding lead, but Tommy was able to complete Martell adding their add-a-ball power to his Lovejoy start and then start the multiball to surpass his score. From here Tommy choose The Walking Dead where he fortunately eked out a win even though both he and Matt had pretty terrible games. He would now await the results of the Keith & Matt matchup in the consolation finals.

Keith and Matt would come down to ball 5 on game three, Big Indian, to determine a winner. A skill full plunge followed by an immediate outlane drain gave Matt just enough bonus to edge out Keith 2-1 and return for a rematch against Tommy in the finals with the change to force two more rounds of play due to the double eliminations format of the tournament.

Matt and Tommy would now face off for the second time on the night, again with Matt having choice. They would head over to Theatre of Magic. Tommy managed to put together a two multi-ball ball 2 that would give him 800+ million and enough to keep him in the lead throughout the game and claim victory. From there he headed back to The Walking Dead where he had earlier defeated Matt….the result would be the same albeit with a slightly better game for Tommy this time around putting up approximately 42 million to Matt’s 6 million giving him the title for Winter Season 2017 of the Lafayette Pinball League.

As always a huge thank you to Dan St. John for not only opening MSA 5 years ago, but for always keeping the games in amazing condition, for allowing us to host league as well as tournaments at the location, and for always providing new and new to us games. Without all of his hard work we really couldn’t have this league. Please remember that and always continue to be respectful of the games and the location, and again to Dan thank you.

We will be taking the full month of February off from running any league play. Tonight, February 1st, is the finals for January selfie-league. Main Street Amusements will be holding the IFPA State Championship Series on February 11th. We will still have our monthly 3-strikes tournament on February 21st. Selfie league is still running this month and has just gone active today, the games are below.february-selfie-league-games-2017

Lastly, thanks to all the players who come out and compete and just have fun with league. I am hoping to get a few more to join us for Spring Season which starts on March 7th. Please feel free to invite family, friends, neighbors, and strangers to come and join the league. I plan to do some advertising here on our site, as well as through Facebook, and some local bars and maybe even over on campus. I’ve made a series of flyers feel free to copy and share them to any social media that you use as well. See you all at the events over the next month and back for league on March 7th.

Good News, Bad News…

Hey guys so……kind of forgot to get the awards from fall season ordered in time for presentation before finals tomorrow night, so to Matt Peace and Tom Vandenberg, I apologize. On the positive note they should be here by the end of the week and possibly even Wednesday so I could have them at selfie league finals. I did update the look of our awards for something a bit different that will be customized for with our league logo. Hopefully you guys like them, and if not just let me know and we can change it up again next season! (aka the awards that will be for whoever wins tomorrow night)

January Selfie League Update

Hey everyone! Just a reminder that you have 5 days left to get those selfie league scores submitted for the month of January! The games are Star Trek, Cybernaut, Laser Cue, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Harlem Globetrotters.

Remember that to receive points for the selfie league you now must participate in the finals which will be next Wednesday, February 1st at 7:30 PM. The finals format is now also changed to include four of the games from the month instead of three games like it previously did, the 5th unused game will be used to settle any ties. The person finishing in 1st still drives the bus for A Group, 5th for B Group, and 9th for C group. Hope to see some more players for finals this month.

Here are the current standings.

Next Week a Champion Will be Crowned!

Lafayette Pinball League wrapped up the regular season last night after 10 grueling weeks of qualifying. Finishing at the top of the heap is Keith Alyea who will head into next week’s finals as the #1 seed in the tournament. The rest of the finishing positions can be seen below along with last nights results. lpl-winter-2017-week-10-results

Following IFPA’s newest rules you had to have participated in at least 5 out of the 10 weeks of regular season to play in the finals next week, this will leave us with 11 competitors vying for the coveted award. Reminder for the finals tournament there is a $10 entry fee. The money collected is used to purchase awards for the top 2 finishers as well as prize money for the top finishers as well. The tournament is run in double elimination format, and each match is best of 3 throughout both the winners and losers bracket. That means even a loss in the first round does not eliminate you from coming all the way back and still having a chance at ultimate victory in the finals. Matt is looking to continue his reign as champion, while Tom, Keith, and Tommy all hope to reclaim their former glory, and several others strive for their first shot at championship gold! The bracket as it sits is below pending participation of all 11 competitors. Remember that finals usually runs later than most of our league nights so come prepared for a long, fun, competitive night of pinball! Tournament Bracket Online
