REMINDER League Night, 7:30 @ MSA!

Just your friendly reminder that tonight is league night, week 6 down at MSA, and the game of the week is Game of Thrones Premium since winter is coming. We will start at 7:30 PM like always.

cropped-lafayettepinball.jpg

Other important reminders that next week, 11/21/2017, will be our monthly 3-strikes tournament. We will start at 7:30 PM,  NOT 8PM as we have in the past and we will return to our head to head format as we have traditionally done instead of the group format that we tried in October.

Lastly, there is a charity tournament at Jerilee’s Pub on Sunday, November 26th. It will be a 4 strikes tournament. The entry fee is $10 + coin drop. All entry fee money and coin drop will be donated to my friend’s charity, Henry House.

What is Henry House?

The purpose of Henry House, Inc. is to build a universally accessible, adaptable residence, where individuals with physical disabilities and able-bodied individuals live together to experience the dignity and self-respect that comes from contributing to their community. It is an intentionally inclusive environment that allows individuals to live at the highest level of independence possible, while fostering a sense of community by utilizing the model of cooperative housing.
Henry is a 23 year old man with physical challenges. He utilizes a wheelchair and needs daily attendant care. Henry is funny, intelligent and great with numbers. He is an assistant Director of Basketball Operations for Purdue Women’s Basketball. Henry cannot live independently without assistance, but he has so much to offer the community.
While Henry is the inspiration for this new home, he is far from alone. Many individuals in our own community, including our Nations Veterans, require attendant care but are capable of actively engaging in the community. There are others with varying physical challenges.

What would Henry House provide?
Currently, in Indiana there are many group homes that serve all disabilities. To our knowledge, there are no residences that specifically provide what Henry House seeks to offer – an integrated, cooperative home. This is a new model. It is designed to create a self-sustaining, intentionally inclusive community, which will empower those with physical needs to be a valued part of the community at the highest level. Its intended location is close to Purdue, near services, such as banks, drug stores, sports arenas, classes, performing arts, markets and eateries.
What would the Henry House include?
This residence is being designed to accommodate individuals with physical challenges and also able-bodied individuals. It will follow a cooperative housing model, where all residents will contribute to the daily operations of the house. Each resident with physical challenges will have private adapted space where support services can be offered. Primary care services will be the responsibility of the individuals living there and not tied to the residence. Able bodied residents can rent private rooms with a bath. The key to the success of Henry House is to engage the community, like students, in nursing or engineering or pharmacy. These individual would be offered reduced rent in exchange for support services. Henry House would have a kitchen and other common living areas to promote positive social engagement and friendship and to foster a sense of community that welcomes all. The key to its success is to engage the community.

This tournament will be played in groups of 4 with only the person finishing in last place taking a strike. The idea is it makes the tournament last longer, raises more funds for the charity, and allows everyone to hang out and socialize a bit longer on the day. Important reminder this tournament is located in the bar so only people 21+ will be able to play. The bar is attached to a bowling alley that does have a family arcade side (no pinball sorry) if anyone is thinking of bringing down the family with them and worried about them having something to do. There will also be food and drinks available for purchase at the venue. Celebrate the end of Thanksgiving weekend with some pinball and a bit of charitable work while having some fun!

If you plan to attend please RSVP on the Facebook Event Page so that we can have a rough estimate of the number of players to expect. Also please feel free to invite friends and family for a good time, hope to make this event large and fun!

Pinsgiving III!

As some of you know we have done Pinsgiving the last few years as my house,  yes it is a made up holiday by me and hallmark with the intent of selling a few extra cards. This year we are doing something a bit different with it. I hope that a lot of you can make it.

Pinsgiving Charity Tournament Nov. 26th, 12 PM @ Jerilee’s Pub

Pinsgiving this year will be a charity tournament to help my friend, Henry Dukes’, charity Henry House.

“The purpose of Henry House, Inc. is to build a universally accessible, adaptable residence, where individuals with physical disabilities and able-bodied individuals live together to experience the dignity and self-respect that comes from contributing to their community.

Many individuals in our own community, including our Nations Veterans, require attendant care but are capable of actively engaging in the community.”

We are going to use the Pinbowling format for qualifying, by playing 10 frames. Followed by an A & B division finals splitting the qualifiers in half between the divisions. Finals will be completed in 4-player groups until we have a winner.  The games will be WWF Royal Rumble, Metallica, Congo, The Shadow, Fish Tales, Prospector, Baywatch, Viking, and two more to be announced in the coming weeks. The tournament entry fee will be $10, and coin drop will still be required on the machines. All entry fee money and coin drop will be getting donated to Henry House for that day. There will be awards for the Champions.

Pinsgiving is something I have celebrated at my house with friends the past few years, sharing my pinball collection and a meal with people I am thankful to have in my life. This year I’m hoping to share the same idea with a larger group of people and actually help with a great cause at the same time. The games are located in Jerilee’s Pub so players will have to be 21+, but the bar is attached to Market Square Lanes so those of you with family and young ones could spend some of the time with them on the bowling alley side and enjoy the family arcade available over there as well.

The tournament qualifying will start at 12:00 PM on Sunday, November 26th, and end at 5:00 PM. Finals will begin immediately after qualifying. Hope to see a lot of you there and more details will be posted in the weeks to come.

There are no IFPA points or anything like that, at the end of the season, we will have a small tournament and prizes for the top finishers. All the games are $.50 or $.25 for EM’s. It is definitely no Main Street Amusements but it is still a good time. Feel free to come and bring some friends. There will be at least 10 machines available on the day of the tournament. Their current lineup includes Aerosmith Pro, Spider-Man VE, Game of Thrones Pro, Ghostbusters Pro, Medieval Madness Remake, The Getaway: High Speed II, and World Cup Soccer. The lineup could of course change as it is a public location and we will do our best to notify everyone if/when that happens.

As always this tournament invites the top 16 players in the state to compete against one another in best of 7, head to head series of matches until we crown a new IFPA State Champion. There is a $20 entry fee per player, $16 is subtracted from the pot to pay for the new IFPA tournament fee ($1 per player), and then the rest is awarded in cash prizes to the top 3 finishers.  Tons of more information is available on the IFPA Website regarding the State Championship Series (SCS) if you have any questions feel free to check there or reach out directly to me. If you are currently ranked in Indiana lookout for an email in the first week of January inviting you to participate. Good luck in the final two months of the year in making moves in the standings! See everyone in Indianapolis in January!

Monthly Tournament Results and League Night Reminder

Congrats to Matt on winning the monthly tournament last week, and thanks to everyone who came out and played! After getting feedback on the new format it seems that old format is preferred. We will go back to our traditional head to head 3-strikes in November. Thanks for giving something new a shot, and for providing feedback so we can try to make it the best experience for everyone. We have also gotten requests to start a bit earlier so that we aren’t out as late on a weeknight, so starting in November we will move the monthly tournament up to 7:30 PM start time just like all of our regular league nights. Mark it on your calendar Tuesday, November 21st, 7:30 PM, 3-Strikes knockout tournament at Main Street Amusements, prizes again brought to you by our sponsor Lafayette Brewing Company!

Also a reminder that week 3 of our Fall League is tomorrow night at 7:30 PM! Game of the week is Attack from Mars so every group will play that game, and the rest is up to the individuals you are paired with. Remeber that you can’t pick a game you have picked in the first two weeks so do your best to remember those before you get there tomorrow. See everyone there!
